Response to “Terms of Service”

I wish I could say I was surprised to read this cartoon, but I’m not. I have come to understand that everything I do online, and anywhere I go while I have my phone on me is being tracked. It is really eerie that these corporations are recording our data. I Understand that this data is separated and sold off to various companies who would be interested in say, where people in Manhattan ages 18–26 like to hang out. Or how many people ages 50 and up use Facebook vs Instagram. I agree with Peppet that people will only become more and more accepting of this surveillance as time passes. I’m sure that I am being tracked in ways I do not even realize, its possible that certain apps and sites steal the photos on my phone, or even record my conversations. Right now it does not seem like our data is being used for nefarious purposes, but how long until it does begin to have a negative effect on us? For example it was mentioned what if credit card companies based your score not only on your payments but on how often you got physical exercise. How soon before someone uses the data to expose people’s private lives?
